Bengaluru, Aug 8 (PTI) The LaLiT Ashok Bengaluru on Saturday sought to clarify that the meat and other food products flagged during a recent inspection were not found to be spoiled or unfit for consumption.
The clarification came a day after Food Safety officers conducted a special inspection of 26 three-star and five-star hotels in the city, collecting 35 food samples for laboratory analysis.
The officers also seized food articles that had crossed their stated dates of use and detected several violations of food safety norms.
In a statement shared with the media on Saturday, the hotel said the observations regarding meat and frozen food products related to their storage and segregation.
“The products in question were frozen and were not found to be spoiled or unfit for consumption. Similarly, the milk referred to in certain reports was one day beyond its ‘Best Before’ date. It had already been identified for withdrawal from use and was not intended to be served to guests,” it said.
According to the department, the inspections were conducted by the Food Safety Wing of the Health and Family Welfare Department under the directives of Health Minister U T Khader to verify compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
The department said that during the inspection of LaLiT Ashok (Annex South), 76 kg of meat and 200 kg of vegetables were seized. In addition, 32 litres of milk that had crossed its stated date were seized and destroyed.
The LaLiT Ashok Bengaluru said it took food safety, hygiene and quality standards seriously.
“We are fully cooperating with the authorities and have already reviewed and reinforced our food storage, inventory management and product-date monitoring processes in line with the observations made during the inspection,” it said.
The hotel said the safety and well-being of its guests remained its “highest priority” and reaffirmed its commitment to “maintaining high standards of food safety and operational excellence.” PTI AMP SSK
