Kolkata, Sep 15 (PTI) The colleges and universities of West Bengal have started preparing to organise various programmes to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday on September 17 as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan which will come to an end on October 10, officials said on Tuesday.
A special play titled ‘Namo-Seva’, which will be staged in the institutes, will portray various aspects of Modi’s life, including his social service initiatives and administrative role, with the character of the Prime Minister also being enacted on stage.
State-run higher educational institutions have been asked by the West Bengal government to stage the play and organise drawing and elocution competitions for students as part of the celebrations.
Confirming that preparations are in full swing, Lady Brabourne College Principal Siuli Saha said the NSS and cultural wing of the college are preparing to stage the play, and organise lecture sessions, elocution, drawing and decorating the college premises.
“Our programmes will end on October 10 to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday and showcase his public service and administrative journey,” she said.
“The special celebrations are being organised as part of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. Everyone in the college is chipping in to make it a grand success,” Saha said.
She said that for the play, those having prowess in performing arts are being chosen, while every student having specific interests is being guided by teachers of the respective departments.
The Principal of Rastruguru Surendranath College, Barrackpore, Monojit Roy, said, “We will start the programmes under Seva Sankalp from September 22. The play will take place on September 17.” “Besides the play, there will be an elocution contest and debate among the students to instil patriotic spirit in them. There will be elocution programmes about the progress made by the country, drawing competition, and discussion on Viksit Bharat 2047,” he said.
In the first week of October, the college building will be illuminated with lamps containing the colours of the national flag, Roy said.
Calcutta University Vice Chancellor Asutosh Ghosh said preparations are in full swing to observe Namo Seva to mark the PM’s 76th birthday and hold other cultural programmes between September 17 and October 10.
