Guwahati, Sep 15 (PTI) The rail network in Assam has been fully electrified, with the electrification of the final phase of the Lumding-Badarpur Hill section, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed the achievement as a “big milestone” for the state, where all tracks were not even broad gauge prior to 2014, when the BJP-led NDA came to power at the Centre.
“Assam’s rail network is now 100 per cent electrified. With the electrification of the challenging 169-km Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, the state completes its railway electrification journey,” Vaishnaw said in a social media post on Monday.
Hailing the achievement, Sarma, in a social media post, said it is a “big milestone for Assam”.
He said complete electrification of the railway network will enable environment-friendly movement in the state.
“This has been achieved just in 12 years – in a state where most parts weren’t even Broad Gauge prior to 2014,” Sarma claimed.
He credited the “untiring efforts of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in bringing Assam at par with other peers” for the milestone.
Sarma also acknowledged the roles of Vaishnaw and his predecessors in the ministry, Piyush Goyal and Suresh Prabhu, for their contributions in driving the electrification efforts at various stages since 2014. PTI SSG SSG BDC
