Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district battles Bird Flu outbreak

Nellore district collector Hari Narayan has convened an emergency meeting with animal husbandry department officials. After the meeting, he instructed all the officials to take necessary steps to control the spread of bird flu.

New Delhi: The avian flu or bird flu has broken out in Andhra Pradesh. A few chickens died in two villages in Nellore district in the last few days.The department of animal husbandry of Andhra Pradesh is working towards controlling the outbreak.Nellore district collector Hari Narayan has convened an emergency meeting with animal husbandry department officials.

After the meeting, he instructed all the officials to take necessary steps to control the spread of bird flu.He has ordered to close all the chicken shops within three months around Chatagutla, Podalakur and Gumalladibba of Kovurmand, where the birds died.

He also said that the dead chickens should be buried in the ground and gram sabhas should be organized in the affected villages to make people aware of the situation.At the same time, he appealed to the public not to panic. He said that the health department is keeping a close watch on the situation and taking all the necessary precautionary measures to prevent any human infection.
