New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) A delegation of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Thursday met Delhi Waqf Board officials and submitted a memorandum seeking urgent intervention in the matter concerning the Race Course Road mosque and adjoining graveyard.

The delegation urged the board to take necessary legal steps to protect the religious site and seek interim protection against any demolition until the relevant records and legal claims are examined by the competent authority.

In the memorandum addressed to the board’s chief executive officer, AIMIM Delhi unit president Shoaib Jamai cited a Delhi Gazette notification dated September 8, 1977, which, he said, records the mosque and graveyard at the site, covering approximately two bighas.

The memorandum called on the board to examine and challenge the reported demolition proceedings, provide the mosque committee with the necessary authorisation and documents to pursue legal remedies, and preserve relevant Waqf, gazette and revenue records.

AIMIM members also staged a protest outside the Waqf Board office against what they described as the CEO’s negative response on the matter. PTI VBH VBH SKY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
