New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Saturday alleged irregularities in the Delhi government’s procurement of 1.3 lakh bicycles, questioning the selection of Matta Sports over established manufacturers such as Hero and Avon.
Bharadwaj claimed that Matta Sports was neither a bicycle manufacturer nor had prior experience in supplying bicycles, but was awarded the tender to supply bicycles at Rs 7,000 each.
There was no immediate reaction from the BJP on the allegation.
Bharadwaj alleged that while the work order mentioned the Hero Skyler 26T model, the company was supplying a lower-priced Hero Bonfire model instead.
“Hero had discontinued production of the Skyler 26T model long ago. Instead, a cheaper Bonfire model, costing around Rs 4,000, is being supplied under the name of Skyler 26T,” he said.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader questioned how a dealer could quote a price lower than that offered by the manufacturer itself and sought clarification from the Delhi government on the procurement process.
He alleged that the price difference could result in a substantial financial loss to the government if the bicycles being supplied were not the model specified in the work order.
The AAP leader demanded that the Delhi government clarify the tendering and supply process and explain why Matta Sports was selected over established bicycle manufacturers. PTI SHB VN VN
