Bhubaneswar, Sep 27 (PTI) The East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Sunday announced the cancellation of six trains on Odisha’s Rayagada Division, due to a landslide between two stations, officials said.
The decision was taken as a safety precaution and to facilitate restoration work on the section affected, following heavy rainfall in the last few days, they said.
The trains that have been cancelled include the Rourkela-Jagdalpur Express, Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Express and Jagdalpur-Rourkela Express, the ECoR said.
Several other trains were also short-terminated and short-originated due to the landslide between Maligura and Chhatariput stations, it said.
Torrential rain has resulted in flash floods and incidents of water-logging in at least 13 Odisha districts – Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Bolangir and Jagatsinghpur – officials said.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted an aerial survey of areas in Ganjam and Koraput inundated by rivers in spate, following heavy rain that has affected 13 districts, where local authorities have started moving people to safety. PTI AAM RBT
