New Delhi: Two Indian-origin men have been arrested and charged in Canada in connection with a shooting at comedian-actor Kapil Sharma’s cafe in British Columbia (BC) last year, police in the North American country have said.

The duo has been identified as Pardeep Singh and Saveer Khan, both aged 22.

Sharma’s cafe—Kap’s Cafe—has seen three separate firing incidents since its opening in July 2025. The first incident took place in the early hours of 10 July last year when multiple shots were fired at the cafe from a moving vehicle. The responsibility for the attack was claimed by both Harjit Singh Laddi, associated with the banned separatist group Babbar Khalsa International, and gangster Goldy Dhillon.

On 7 August, there was a second attack, for which both Dhillon and gangster Kulveer Sidhu took responsibility, describing it as a “warning”. The third attack took place on 16 October, when a gunman again fired multiple rounds at the establishment. Again, Sidhu and Dhillon claimed responsibility.

Two shootings

In a statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the arrest was announced by the British Columbia Provincial Extortion Task Force, which found a link between the 16 October incident and another shooting four days earlier.

The RCMP said that on 12 October 2025, police responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in Surrey, British Columbia. A female victim sustained injuries in the incident.

On 16 October 2025, police responded to the shooting at Sharma’s cafe. “Although the business was closed at the time, two employees were inside but were not injured,” RCMP said.

“The BC Extortion Task Force assumed conduct of both investigations after potential linkages between the incidents were identified. Since that time, investigators have worked closely with policing partners to advance the investigations,” the RCMP said.

On 1 November 2026, the BC Provincial Extortion Task Force, in coordination with the CFSEU-BC (the local anti-gang police agency) and Surrey Police Service, arrested Pardeep Singh and Saveer Khan in Surrey.

The two have been charged with two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm in relation to the 12 October and 16 October incidents.

“These charges are the result of extensive investigative work conducted over the past year, including multiple judicial authorisations, search warrants, and detailed analysis of evidence,” Chief Superintendent Duncan Pound of the RCMP said.

“We recognise and share the concerns these incidents created within the community and have worked diligently as an integrated team to continue gathering the evidence which has resulted in the charges announced today. These charges should serve as another clear message to those involved in extortion related violence that law enforcement is working collaboratively to ensure public safety,” he said.
