New Delhi: Safety has long been an issue for Bollywood celebs, from invasive paparazzi to stalkers. The attack on Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu on Sunday has once again brought the safety of Bollywood celebrities 18 October is the latest in a series of new threats.

On Sunday, Unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire at the actor’s SUV. The attack follows a series of shootings, extortion attempts and threats targeting members of the entertainment industry. Over the past few years, several actors, singers, comedians and other celebrities have faced threats delivered through WhatsApp audio messages, emails and social media posts; sometimes the threats have also become physical.

The most recent firing incident before Tiger Shroff occurred in February 2026 outside Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as a “small trailer”. Police said at least five rounds were fired at around 12.45 am towards the first floor of the nine-storey Shetty Tower. One of the bullets shattered the glass of a gym located within the premises.

Before that, in November 2025, two motorcycle-borne assailants fired multiple rounds outside Guru Randhawa’s gym. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility through social media posts and an audio message, threatening the singer over his alleged closeness to actor Salman Khan. In June 2026, four suspects were arrested following a series of police operations and encounters in connection with the case.

In September 2025, two gunmen opened fire outside actor Disha Patani’s family home in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The assailants reportedly fired around seven rounds outside the residence in the Civil Lines area while Disha was away. Her parents, Jagdish and Padma, along with her siblings, Khushboo and Suryansh, were reportedly inside the house at the time of the incident.

But these attacks weren’t just limited to India. In Canada, comedian Kapil Sharma’s restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, was targeted in three separate shooting incidents between July and October 2025. Officials reportedly said the accused were linked to Goldy Brar, a gangster associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi network.

One of the most prominent attacks occurred in April 2024, when two men on a motorcycle opened fire outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Bandra. The incident heightened concerns about the actor’s security amid a history of threats allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which described the attack as a “trailer”. Khan was inside the residence at the time and escaped unharmed. The longstanding feud stems from the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan.

In September 2024, gunshots were fired at singer AP Dhillon’s residence at Canada’s Vancouver Island in an incident claimed by a network associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The singer was also issued death threats in a social media post.

A similar incident occurred outside singer and actor Gippy Grewal’s residence in Vancouver in November 2023. Once again, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility and cited Grewal’s association with Khan as the reason for the attack. Grewal, however, said he had met the actor only twice in his life.

Around the same period, several celebrities also received threats from gangs, including individuals claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi network.

In July 2026, Aamir Khan reportedly received a threat allegedly linked to the gang through a social media post and a voice clip.

A member of Ranveer Singh’s staff reportedly received an audio message demanding more than Rs 10 crore in extortion. Police suspected the involvement of individuals linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Unlike shootings outside residences, this incident involved a direct financial demand communicated through a messaging platform.

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
