New Delhi: Delhi Police Crime Branch said in a statement Wednesday that they have arrested two suspects in connection with the firing outside Punjabi performer Guru Randhawa’s gym in Paschim Vihar earlier this month, and that the two suspects have ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Identified as Arman (19) and Tushar (21), both residents of Rewara village in Haryana’s Sonepat, the suspects were arrested Monday.

One of the two had recently been inducted into the Bishnoi gang after he returned from Russia, the police statement added.

At around 4 AM on 11 June, motorcycle-borne assailants had opened fire outside 24Hs Fitness Gym in Delhi’s Paschim Vihar, owned by Randhawa. Delhi police later seized seven empty cartridges from the spot and a case was registered against unidentified persons.

Later, Anil Pandit—who Delhi Police say is a member of the Bishnoi gang—wrote a social media post claiming responsibility for the firing. In the purported post, Pandit wrote that Guru Randhawa was getting “too close” to Salman Khan and that they had warned him to stay away from the actor, “whom they label as their enemy,” the police statement added.

Both accused are under interrogation in police custody. Teams are also still working to apprehend the remaining suspects and to recover the weapon used in commission of crime.

Teams formed by the Delhi Police Crime Branch to nab the suspects examined technical data, reconstructed the escape route, and traced their movements across a stretch of nearly 100 km to piece together their movements.

The suspects were subsequently identified as Sahil, Sagar, Arman and Tushar.

On 15 June, following a tip-off, a Crime Branch team conducted an operation and arrested Arman and Tushar from Bahadurgarh in Haryana.

According to police, Arman has studied up to Class 10 and lives in Tilak Nagar along with his mother and sister. He is Sahil and Sagar’s cousin. Meanwhile, Tushar has studied up to Class 12. His parents died by suicide in 2007 when he was only 3-years-old. In 2023, he managed to go to Russia on a student visa, and worked at KFC there. He returned to Delhi from Russia and met with Sahil and Sagar and was in touch with them since 8 June.

According to the police, the suspects planned the firing at the behest of Anil Pandit.

All the suspects in the case know each other since they belong to the same village near Sonepat, which was also used as a hideout right after the incident took place, the source added.

“After the firing took place, multiple news reports were carried, which the accused kept an eye on. They knew the police were onto them so first they went to their village in Rewara, Gohana in Sonepat. They stayed there for initial days, until they started looking for hideouts. They had to manage this task on their own. They went to one-two villages after Gohana, and finally were tracked in Bahadurgarh. The other three accused have also been absconding,” said the source.

Another police source told ThePrint, the main task was given to remaining accused Sahil alias Hakkit. “He was managing funds for the team and bore all the expenses. The arrested accused disclosed they carried out the task for money and that was to be given to them after work,” he said.

The source added, “Sahil and Sagar were in contact with Anil Pandit and Randeep Malik on Instagram and influenced by them on pretext to send them abroad.”
