New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) Overseeing the disposal of about 1,700 kilograms of seized narcotic substances in Delhi, LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday said the destruction symbolised “the victory of law over criminality and hope over addiction”.

The narcotics were worth nearly Rs 72 crore in the international market, officials said.

Addressing the gathering, Sandhu announced the approval for the establishment of Delhi’s first dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) police station as part of the broader push to make the city drug-free by 2027.

“This event is not merely about destroying seized narcotic substances. It is about dismantling an ecosystem that threatens the youth, weakens families and harms the future of society,” the LG said, adding that it was a symbol of the victory of law and hope.

He said the vision of a ‘Drug-Free India’, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was not merely a government programme but a “national mission and social responsibility”.

He said the Delhi Police is focusing on dismantling the financial backbone of drug traffickers through enforcement action, financial investigations and property attachment, while also strengthening preventive campaigns such as ‘Nasha Not Cool’. PTI BM PRK
