New Delhi: It was celebration time in the offices of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Thursday, as assembly election results for the five states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa were announced.
While the AAP charted a landslide, and historic, victory in Punjab, winning 92 of 117 assembly seats in the state, the BJP returned to power in the other four states.
Addressing the media after the verdict was announced, AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, ” We have been saying this — ‘do not challenge the common man as there is a lot of power in the common people’,”. Kejriwal also congratulated the AAP’s CM candidate Bhagwant Mann.
Meanwhile in UP, Yogi Adityanath won his first assembly election with over one lakh votes. The UP CM had contested from the Gorakhpur (Urban) seat.
PM Narendra Modi addressed party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi Thursday and said that voters had ensured BJP’s four-state assembly election victory.
As celebrations were carried out at the Delhi offices of both the BJP and the AAP, ThePrint’s Praveen Jain, Manisha Mondal and Suraj Singh Bisht were there to capture the moments.
