Chandigarh: Sukhna lake, a reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas, in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, is now open to visitors on weekends. However, as a safety measure, activities in the area such as boating will not be allowed, and the amusement park will remain shut.

The shopping arcade and other places on the premises will also remain closed for now.

In pre-Covid times, Sukhna Lake would witness thousands of visitors on weekends, and in the evenings on weekdays. It’s a favourite with morning walkers too. But the area was closed a second time on 31 July after a sharp rise in cases when lockdown restrictions were eased.

People flocked to the lake again Saturday after it was reopened, but many could be seen without masks.

ThePrint’s National Photo Editor Praveen Jain captured the scene at Sukhna Lake Saturday.
