New Delhi: A video of Amitabh Bachchan thanking staff at Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital has been circulating on social media platforms with the claim that it is from the actor’s recent visit to the facility after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The Bollywood superstar was admitted to Nanavati Hospital Saturday evening after he was found Covid positive. He had taken to Twitter to confirm the development, that authorities have been informed and both his staff and family members were being tested.

Later in the day Saturday, his son and actor Abhishek Bachchan too tweeted saying that he has also tested positive for the virus and had been hospitalised.

In the viral video that has emerged since, Amitabh can be heard saying: “I thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Nanavati Hospital for the tremendous work that they are doing in these trying times.”

He also says that he always had a wonderful experience whenever he has visited the hospital and that healthcare workers have become embodiment of God during the pandemic.

In the undated video, Amitabh says that he saw a billboard on Twitter from Surat saying mandirs have been shut because God has been working in hospitals.

The video has been shared by several news handles, including Punjab Kesari Himachal’s Facebook page, Lokmat News Hindi‘s Twitter handle, 99TV Telugu YouTube page and AajTak‘s YouTube page with the claim that it is from the actor’s present visit to the facility.

Fact check

The video however is an old one from Amitabh’s previous visit to the Nanavati Hospital in April. It was posted on Facebook by the Amitabh Bachchan Fan Club on 23 April.

As he talks about the role played by healthcare workers in the pandemic, the video is being wrongly circulated as a message thanking the Nanavati Hospital staff for his present coronavirus treatment.
