New Delhi: A video of a packed aircraft has gone viral on social media, claiming that Air India isn’t abiding by social distancing norms.

It comes in the wake of the Narendra Modi government repatriating stranded Indians abroad via special flights.

The video shows the inside of an airplane where passengers are sitting close to each other, a fact that, in these times of social distancing, becomes concerning as the country remains in lockdown to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The passengers in the video can also be heard complaining about the lack of social distancing and also about the overpriced tickets.

One person said to the flight attendant: “According to you people, coronavirus is outside but not inside the flight. If anything will happen to me, I will sue you guys.”

Another woman passenger said, “We bought tickets only after we were assured that seats next to us would remain vacant and that there would be distancing. But after coming inside the flight we can see that all seats are occupied.”

The video has been widely shared on WhatsApp and Facebook

A user named Aslam Mohammed Pk shared the video on Facebook Friday, said: “Air india is charging thrice the amount of ticket on the assurance that social distancing will be maintained and only 1 seat per row will be used and look what they got. THIS IS THE REALITY. Authority and airlines both r make fool to PASSANGER (sic).”

Congress leader Alka Lamba retweeted the video on Twitter.

Fact check

The video was actually taken inside an aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines. It emerged on social media in the last week of April.

The passengers were onboard a Karachi-Toronto flight.
