New Delhi: Following the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo, a picture has gone viral on social media stating that he was earlier a doctor before becoming a terrorist.
The image, allegedly from 2009, is a collage of a man, who is seen wearing a doctor’s coat and stethoscope. Juxtaposed with it is the image of the same man in a black kurta with grenades around his neck and a gun in his hand, allegedly taken in 2019.
The post was shared multiple times on both Twitter and Facebook, with people claiming the person in the photograph was terrorist Riyaz Naikoo.

One of the posts on Facebook has garnered nearly 5,000 reactions and has been shared almost 3,000 times. The same post has also been shared by another Facebook handle, raking up nearly 500 likes. It was shared more than 200 times at last count.
Fact check
The man in the photo is a doctor from Saudi Arabia, who has been identified as Mustafa al-Anzi. The collage of him as a doctor and a terrorist had surfaced in 2014 after news reports said he had joined the Islamic State and was killed on 11 July 2014 in an Iraqi military airstrike in Mosul, Iraq.
