New Delhi: Just a day after daily Covid-19 cases hit a five-month low, the number of cases detected over 24 hours once again rose to over 32,000. This was accompanied by a rise in the test positivity rate, from 2.5 per cent Tuesday to 3.1 per cent Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths reported over the last 24 hours increased to over 400.
Daily cases

Over the last 24 hours, 32,080 people have been infected with Covid-19 across the country. This is an increase from Tuesday, when the number of cases detected was the lowest since July (26,567).
Active cases

Active cases in the country, however, continued to decline. The number of active cases in India fell to 3,78,909 Wednesday.
This accounts for 3.89 per cent of the total cases detected in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Number of deaths

The total number of Covid-19 deaths reported across the country over the last 24 hours was 402. Delhi, Maharashtra and West Bengal reported the highest number of deaths.
This brings the Covid-19 death toll in India to 1,41,360.
Mortality rate

The case fatality rate (CFR) in Punjab continues to be at 3.1 — the highest in the country. Maharashtra and Sikkim also have high CFR of 2.6 and 2.3 respectively. Sikkim’s CFR has been showing an increasing trend.
Kerala, despite having high number of cases, has a low CFR of 0.4. However, this too is showing an increasing trend.
India’s overall case fatality rate is now 1.45.
Daily tests

Across 1,189 government and 1,031 private laboratories in the country, a total of 10,22,712 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 14,98,36,767 Covid-19 tests have been carried out.
Positivity rate

As the number of cases detected over the last 24 hours increased, the test positivity rate (TPR) also increased to 3.1 per cent.
The overall TPR for India, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, has decreased further to 6.4 per cent.
Recovered cases

In the last 24 hours, 36,635 Covid-19 patients were discharged across India. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 92,15,581 people in India have recovered from the disease.
Total cases

So far, a total of 97,35,850 people have been infected with Covid-19. India has had the second largest number of coronavirus cases in the world, second only to the US.
States with the highest active cases

In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra reported 4,026 new cases, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 18,59,367.
Active cases in the state declined to 74,460 Wednesday, while the death toll increased to 47,827, with 53 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Kerala reported 5,032 new cases in the last 24 hours, which is the highest number of cases detected in a single day among states with high active cases.
The active cases in the state increased to 59,873 Wednesday. As many as 31 Covid-19 deaths were reported in the state over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the state to 2,472.
Kerala has recorded a total of 6,44,696 Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Karnataka saw an increase in its daily case numbers to 1,280 in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday, 998 cases of Covid-19 had been detected across the state.
The number of active cases in the state also increased to 25,034 Wednesday. A total of 13 deaths were reported in the state over the last 24 hours, which brings the state’s Covid-19 toll to 11,880.
Karnataka has so far registered 8,95,284 cases of Covid-19, the second highest in the country.

In West Bengal, 49 Covid-19 patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in the state to 8,820.
In the last 24 hours, 2,941 people have tested positive for Covid-19, which brings the total number of cases detected in the state so far to 5,07,995. Of these, 23,750 are active cases.

In Delhi, as many as 57 people have died in the last 24 hours, which is the highest among all Indian states. This takes the total Covid-19 death toll in Delhi to 9,763.
As many as 3,188 people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases detected to 5,97,112. Of these, 22,310 cases are active.
