Maharashtra & Kerala account for 70% of India’s active cases, over 58 lakh vaccinated so far

New Delhi: India has been witnessing a steady decline of deaths, with daily fatalities not exceeding 150 in the last 10 days. Only 84 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours.

As many as 17 states and union territories haven’t reported any fatality in the past 24 hours. Over 58 lakh healthcare and frontline workers were vaccinated against Covid-19 as of 8 am Monday.

In the last 24 hours, 11,831 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in India, and 85.85 per cent of these cases were from six states.

India recorded a total of 1,48,609 active cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Currently, the active cases of India account for 1.37 per cent of total cases.

India recorded 84 fatalities in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,55,080 deaths have been recorded.

India’s mortality rate stood at 1.4 per cent Monday. Punjab continued to record the highest mortality rate in India at 3.2 per cent. This was followed by Maharashtra at 2.5 per cent, Sikkim at 2.2 per cent.

India conducted 5,32,236 tests in the last 24 hours. On Friday, 7,15,776 tests were carried out. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 20,19,00,614 samples have been collected.

Positivity rate

The test positivity rate in India increased to 2.2 per cent Monday. On Friday, India’s positivity rate stood at 1.7 per cent. The increase in positivity rate Monday could be linked to low number of tests conducted over the weekend.

The overall positivity rate, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5.4 per cent.

Recovered cases

In the last 24 hours, 11,904 people recovered from Covid-19. The total number of recovered cases, since the pandemic, has now crossed over 1.05 crore (1,05,34,505).

India’s recovery rate stands at 97.20 per cent.

As of 8 am Monday, 58,12,362 people have been vaccinated so far. In the last 24 hours, 36,804 people were vaccinated across 1,304 sessions.

Uttar Pradesh has conducted the most number of vaccinations at 6,73,542. This is followed by Maharashtra at 4,73,480, Rajasthan at 4,60,994 and Gujarat at 4,51,002.

A total of 1,08,38,194 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.

Kerala continued to report the highest number of active cases recorded in India at 67,903. It reported the highest number of daily new cases at 6,075 Monday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Kerala has reported 9,68,438 cases of Covid-19 and 3,867 deaths.

Maharashtra recorded the second highest number of active cases in India at 37,213. It reported 2,673 new cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in Maharashtra stand at 20,44,071 and 51,310 deaths.

Maharashtra and Kerala account for 70 per cent of total active cases in India.

Karnataka recorded the third highest number of active cases at 5,978. It reported 487 cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases recorded in the state stand at 9,42,518 and deaths at 12,236.

West Bengal recorded the fourth highest number of active cases at 4,794. The total number of cases recorded in West Bengal stand at 5,71,371 and deaths at 10,207.

Tamil Nadu recorded the fifth highest number of active cases at 4,389. It reported 471 cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases recorded in the state stand at 8,41,797 and deaths at 12,383.
