India’s Covid recovery rate rises to 97%, daily tests drop to 5 lakh, 37.06 lakh vaccinated

New Delhi: The overall recovery rate for India has now increased to 97 per cent and the total number of active cases declined to the lowest since 19 June Monday.

However, the number of Covid-19 tests conducted in the past 24 hours dropped to over 5 lakh, although the test positivity rate was still relatively low at 2.2 per cent.

Over 37 lakh healthcare workers have been given Covid-19 vaccines across the country so far.

In the last 24 hours, 11,427 new cases of Covid-19 infections were reported from across the country. Over 68 per cent of these new cases were reported from Kerala and Maharashtra.

Active cases in India fell to 1,68,235 Monday, the lowest since 19 June. Kerala and Maharashtra continued to have the highest numbers in the country, accounting for nearly 70 per cent of active cases in the country.

A total of 118 people lost their lives to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This brings the total coronavirus death toll, since the beginning of the pandemic in India, to 1,54,392.

Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR), which is the highest in the country, increased further to 3.24. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR is the second highest, at 2.52. Sikkim’s fatality rate has also increased to 2.20. The overall fatality rate for India is 1.44.

In the last 24 hours, the number of Covid-19 tests reduced to 5,04,263 across 1,213 government laboratories and 1,151 private laboratories.

A total of 19,70,92,635 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

The daily test positivity rate for India in the last 24 hours stood at 2.2 per cent. The overall positivity rate, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5.4 per cent.

A total of 37,06,157 health care workers have been vaccinated so far. According to the health ministry, India is the fastest country to reach the three million (30 lakh) mark in Covid-19 vaccination.

As many as 11,858 Covid-19 patients were discharged from across India in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,04,34,983. The recovery rate is now 97 per cent.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,07,57,610 people in India have been infected with Covid-19. The largest number of cases were reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.

States with the highest active cases

Kerala, the state with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases, saw a decline in the active cases Monday to 71,229. In the last 24 hours, 5,266 new Covid-19 cases were reported from the state.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state to 9,29,178. In the last 24 hours, 21 deaths were reported in the state, bringing the total death toll to 3,743.

Maharashtra‘s active case count increased to 46,312, with 2,585 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the last 24 hours, The total number of cases detected from the state now stands at 20,26,399.

Of these, as many as 51,082 people have died, with 40 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Karnataka’s active case count also increased over the last 24 hours to 6,048. In the last 24 hours, 522 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the state. This brings the total infections detected in the state to 9,39,387.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 12,217 people have died of Covid-19, with four deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal reported 229 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections detected from the state to 5,69,998. Of these, 5,553 cases are active.

A total of 10,173 people in the state have lost their lives to Covid-19, with nine deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

In Uttar Pradesh, active cases declined further to 5,525, with 220 new cases of Covid-19 detected in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases in the state so far to 6,00,299.

Of this, 8,658 people have died with eight deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
