New Delhi: Active cases increased once again Thursday, with both Kerala and Maharashtra — the two states with the highest active case load — seeing a rise in numbers.
Meanwhile, vaccine doses administered across the country among healthcare and frontline workers crossed 91 lakh.
Daily cases
A total of 12,881 people tested positive for Covid-19 across the country in the last 24 hours. Over 75 per cent of the new cases were from Kerala and Maharashtra.
Active cases
Active cases in India increased to 1,37,342 Thursday. Kerala, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Punjab and Telangana are among the 19 states and union territories in India which reported a rise in their active case counts.
Number of deaths
India reported 101 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. This takes the country’s overall toll to 1,56,014. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi and West Bengal have recorded the highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Mortality rate
The overall fatality rate for India is 1.43. Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) remains the highest in the country at 3.23. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR is the second highest at 2.48 and Sikkim’s fatality rate is 2.20.
Daily tests
In the last 24 hours, the number of tests conducted across the country increased to 7,26,562. Over 20.8 crore tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate
The daily test positivity rate for India increased slightly to 1.7 per cent in the last 24 hours with an increase in the number of cases. The overall positivity rate, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is now 5.2 per cent.
Recovered cases
As many as 11,987 Covid-19 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of Covid-19 recoveries, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 1,06,56,845.
Daily vaccinations
Over 91,86,757 vaccine doses have been administered in the last 33 days since the immunisation drive began.
As many as 61,79,669 healthcare workers have received the first dose, while 3,42,116 have received the second. Along with this, 26,64,972 frontline workers have received the first dose since 21 February.
Total cases
Since the beginning of the pandemic 1,09,50,201 people in India have been infected with Covid-19, with the largest number of cases being reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.
States with the highest active cases
Active cases in Kerala once again increased, with 4,892 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. As of Thursday, 61,074 cases in the state were active. A total of 10,16,848 cases of Covid-19 have been detected from the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of these, 4,032 people have died, with 16 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra also continues to report a rise in active cases. As many as 4,787 people in the state tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing up active cases in the state to 39,201.
A total of 51,631 people in the state have died of Covid-19 so far, with 40 Covid-19 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Active cases in Karnataka declined to 5,717 Thursday, with 378 new Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours. This brings the total infections detected in the state, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 9,46,454.
With three deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s death toll rose to 12,276.
In Tamil Nadu, 454 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the last 24 hours. A total of 8,46,480 people in the state have been infected with Covid-19 so far. Of these, 4,192 cases are currently active.
With six deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 12,438 Thursday.
West Bengal reported 133 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases detected from the state so far to 5,73,012.
Active cases in the state fell to 3,736. With two deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 10,237.
