New Delhi: Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith is getting married for the second time, and Pakistanis have a lot of opinions—from heartbroken laments to religious zealotry.
According to media reports, the 52-year-old is engaged to Irish-Australian financier Cameron O’Reilly, son of late media tycoon Sir Anthony O’Reilly.
Goldsmith, who was married to the former Pakistan Prime Minister for nine years, has been an active campaigner for Khan’s release from prison. He is currently imprisoned in cases he maintains are politically motivated.
Goldsmith was married to Khan from 1995 to 2004, and the couple have two sons. While neither Goldsmith nor O’Reilly has publicly confirmed the news, reports citing sources close to them suggest that wedding plans may already be in progress, Dawn reported.
“Today every PTI supporter has probably stopped believing in true love,” wrote a Pakistani user on X.
A supporter of Nawaz Sharif’s PMLN shared an edited video of Imran Khan gate-crashing the wedding.

Khan, who has been in prison for over 2 years, has been married twice after his divorce from Goldsmith.
While Pakistani men are disappointed about Goldsmith breaking hearts, the women are defending her right to spend her life as she wishes.
“I feel like Jemima is doing the right thing. If Khan Sahab can marry two or three times after his first marriage, then why do we expect a woman to stay stuck in the past and not move on? She also has the right to move forward in her life,” another user, Javaria, wrote.
Pakistani X user, Brownie, had a cynical take. “Wait for Pakistanis to now come up with bewafa memes and edits on Jemima cause how dare a woman decide to move on and get married 22 years after divorce when the ex-husband is already on his 3rd marriage.”

Not a Sonia Gandhi
Then came the comparisons. Goldsmith could never pull a Sonia Gandhi.
“Jemima faced nothing compared to what Ghinwa Bhutto and Sonia Gandhi faced. Both left their homes, moved to husband’s country, husbands were assassinated yet they remained in husband’s respective countries and completely amalgamated. Jemima could never adjust to Pakistan because she was too rich for it. She’s now found someone from her own financial and social circle. Hopefully, it works out for her,” Pakistani lawyer Ayesha Ijaz Khan wrote.
Then came the Nawaz Sharif supporters who called it a ‘mixing of political humour with news’.
“Its actually really amusing to see youthias project their own interpretation of “cant she move on” about jemima’s marriage on others. Jemima has moved on before and after her marriage to Imran multiple times over the course of two decades… her having relationships isnt something abnormal or shocking given her life,” X user Dan Mir pointed out.
Youthias is a term Pakistanis disparagingly use for PTI supporters.
There were religious concerns, too. When a user called Eyup Sultan said that Goldsmith cannot marry since she converted to Islam and is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim, Pakistani X user Ayesha Khan clapped back.
“Jemima no longer calls herself a Muslim. She has said countless times after the divorce that only her children are Muslim…So it is relevant that she’s about to marry a non-Muslim,” she wrote.
