Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan skipped his customary Diwali party at Mannat, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor celebrated their last Diwali at their Bandra apartment, Vastu, and Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh shared the first photographs showing their daughter Dua’s face. Diwali 2025 brought its share of celebrity parties, family gatherings and special milestones.
The festival was celebrated on 20 October last year, although Bollywood’s Diwali parties had begun more than a week earlier.
Rekha, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kajol, Kriti Sanon and Karan Johar were among those who attended Manish Malhotra’s annual Diwali bash. Gauri Khan arrived with daughter Suhana, while Kajol was accompanied by Nysa Devgan. Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta were also among the guests.
Producer Ramesh Taurani hosted another major Diwali party in Mumbai. Hrithik Roshan attended with Saba Azad, while Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, and Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza were also present.
A different Diwali for the Khans and Kapoors
Shah Rukh Khan, however, did not host his usual Diwali celebration at Mannat. His Bandra home was undergoing renovations, and the family was staying elsewhere. He shared a photograph of Gauri performing Lakshmi Puja at their temporary home and wished his followers a happy Diwali.
The Kapoor family gathered at Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan’s Mumbai home. Neetu Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and other family members joined the celebrations. Ibrahim Ali Khan also shared a photograph with his younger brothers, Taimur and Jeh, captioning it, “Teeno bhai teeno tabahi.”
For Alia and Ranbir, the festival marked a farewell to Vastu, their Bandra apartment where they got married in 2022. The couple were preparing to move into their new bungalow, Krishna Raj.
Alia shared photographs from the celebrations with Ranbir, her sister Shaheen Bhatt and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji. Their daughter Raha had also been busy painting diyas.
“Dilwali Diwali. Happy Diwali to you and yours,” Alia wrote on Instagram.
Dua’s first public photographs
For Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, Diwali was an occasion to share the first photographs showing their daughter Dua’s face. On 21 October, the couple posted pictures of the one-year-old, who had been kept away from social media since her birth in September 2024.
Dua wore a red outfit matching Deepika’s, while Ranveer was dressed in white. One photograph showed her sitting on her mother’s lap during Diwali prayers.
It was also a first Diwali as parents for Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who welcomed a daughter in July. Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal, who were expecting their first child at the time, shared a photograph of themselves holding a diya.
Celebrations across cities
Priyanka Chopra celebrated Diwali in New York with husband Nick Jonas and their daughter Malti Marie. She shared photographs of the family performing Lakshmi Puja and Malti painting diyas. Chopra also attended the All That Glitters Diwali Ball in Manhattan, organised by her manager Anjula Acharia.
In Hyderabad, Chiranjeevi hosted a Diwali gathering attended by Nagarjuna, Venkatesh Daggubati and Nayanthara, along with their families. He later shared photographs from the celebrations. Rajinikanth also spent the festival with his family, while Amitabh Bachchan wished fans on social media and shared photographs of the decorations at his home.
But the celebrations were accompanied by complaints about the widespread bursting of firecrackers, particularly in Delhi, where air quality deteriorated sharply after the festival.
Mira Rajput, Shahid Kapoor’s wife, criticised the practice and questioned why parents continued to encourage children to burst crackers despite the pollution. Actor Vaani Kapoor also spoke out after Delhi woke up to heavy smog on 21 October.
