Mumbai, Sep 15 (PTI) Filmmaker Rima Das’ award-winning “Village Rockstars 2” will release in cinemas across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune on September 25, the makers announced on Tuesday.
The nationwide release follows the film’s theatrical run in Assam and its screening at MAMI Independent.
A follow-up to Das’ 2017 film “Village Rockstars”, the movie stands on its own as a coming-of-age story exploring childhood, adolescence, nature, climate change, music and the relationship between a mother and daughter, according to a press release.
Set in rural Assam, the film follows a teenage girl navigating friendship, dreams and the uncertainties of growing up. Her bond with her mother, love of music and connection to the land form the emotional core of the story.
Das said “Village Rockstars” and “Village Rockstars 2” have been an emotional journey for her over 10 years.
“Some have watched the film at the film festivals. I am happy to take the film to a larger audience. What has stayed with me through the screenings is how differently people experience these films. Everyone takes away something of their own. Perhaps that is the most beautiful thing cinema can do, it leaves space for the audience to complete the story,” she said.
The film’s exploration of land, nature and a changing climate comes against the backdrop of devastating floods in Assam and Nepal.
“Village Rockstars 2” premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, where it won the Kim Jiseok Award, and later had its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.
The film is distributed by Goenka Enterprises.
Das’ next film, “Not a Hero”, will have its Asian premiere at the Busan International Film Festival next month. PTI ATR RB
