New Delhi: Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has an appeal to the youth of Punjab: “Quit drugs”. The singer, who had a prolonged struggle with addiction, on Tuesday met BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh in Amritsar, Punjab, to spearhead an anti-drug campaign aimed at saving the youth of the state.
“Drugs are ruining families and youth in Punjab. The state must be saved from this,” he said in a video posted on X.
‘Punjab’s children destroyed by drugs’
The 43-year-old singer has earlier addressed his issues with drug addiction and how it affected his family, including his divorce from his wife Shalini Talwar.
In the three-minute-long video, he urged the youth of Punjab to give up drugs and consume “milk, curd and ghee, the products Punjab is known for”.
Even Chugh, in the video, said that Singh has helped people through his words, music and his voice.
“Punjab’s children are being destroyed by drugs. This is the land of our Gurus, saints, and prophets, the land of five rivers. Yet today it is becoming known for the flood of narcotics that is sweeping through our society like a tsunami”, said the leader.
He also added that the state’s youth should learn from Singh’s comeback.
The BJP leader said that if “Honey Singh could return from such a difficult phase of life, then you too can overcome your struggles”.

‘Honey Singh can inspire young people’
Two years ago, Singh had announced that he had completely quit drugs and hard liquor. He claimed he maintains his sobriety with a few occasional beers.
“Honey Singh can inspire young people to stay away from drugs such as heroin, hashish, and other intoxicants. For that, Punjab owes him gratitude,” Chugh said.
Months before the state heads into elections, Singh’s appeal carries particular significance amid growing concerns over drug addiction among Punjab’s youth, especially the widespread use of the synthetic narcotic commonly known as “chitta”.
