While many comments are piling on—creating memes on trans actor Elliott Page—many are confused about why Elon Musk is suddenly attacking the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ actor.

New Delhi: Elon Musk has, yet again, expressed his displeasure with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. This time, he’s going after historian Tom Holland, author of Dynasty: The Rise and Fall of the House of Caesar, whose review of the film was full of gushing praise.

“Tom Holland is such a c**k,” Musk posted on X Tuesday (IST).

He was responding to a tweet that quoted Holland’s post about The Odyssey. The historian recently shared a positive review of the film by The Guardian.

“More praise for The Odyssey from people who – shockingly – have actually waited to see it before giving their opinion,” Holland wrote on 7 July.

In another post the same day, he also called it the best adaptation of a Greek myth.

“Lots of people telling me The Odyssey is a terrible film on the basis of not having seen it… FWIW, I’ve now watched it twice, and it is by some way the best cinematic adaptation of a Greek myth I have ever seen. It honours Homer while simultaneously making something new of him,” he added.

‘A lightning rod for a culture war’

While a good chunk of the comments on Musk’s post are piling on—creating memes on trans actor Elliott Page as Achilles—many are confused about why the billionaire is suddenly attacking the Spider-Man: Homecoming actor.

“Leave it to Hollywood to destroy western culture,” read a comment. Another said: “Dude, he’s like 16 yrs old man.  Lay off him.”

Others are calling our Musk’s irrational anger toward Noland and his latest film.

“Why hate so much on a movie you haven’t even seen? Nothing better to do?” wrote Fred Lambert, editor-in-chief at Electrek.

“Why’s Elon just hating on everyone right now?” read another comment. A Philadelphia-based real estate ‘expert’ jumped in to defend Holland.

“He is a very kind, smart and very nice person. His wife is a midwife. He has a good family. I know exactly which Tom Holland this is and I actually know him. Shame upon shame! Over a movie?” wrote Tracy Herz.

In a quote retweet, Holland responded to Musk’s comment.

“Very happy to say it again. The Odyssey is an amazing film, and missing out on seeing it because you think it’s woke or whatever is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Your loss,” he wrote.

The historian laid the matter to rest by praising the film one last time.

“My last comment on this whole business (which I hadn’t realised was a lightning rod for an entire culture war) – if you like Nolan’s other films, you will love The Odyssey. If you didn’t like them, then miss it.”
