New Delhi: Delhi Police has now granted permission for Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 30 October, a day after refusing clearance over security concerns.

The organisers, BookMyShow Live, held several meetings with police officials and submitted a revised security plan. They said police had asked for additional safety, traffic and crowd-management measures. The organisers agreed to these conditions, following which permission was granted Friday.

BookMyShow Live also clarified that the concert had never been cancelled. Permission had only been temporarily withheld while the security arrangements were reviewed.

“We, with Delhi Police, are committed to ensuring a good experience for attendees as well as local commuters,” the organisers said in a statement.

‘Threat-related measures’

In a letter dated 21 October, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal had refused permission for the show, citing “specific threat-related inputs” and the police’s other security and law-and-order commitments during the festive season. The police did not explain what the threats were.

Even after the refusal became public Thursday, BookMyShow continued selling tickets for the concert. Neither the organisers nor Dosanjh had announced a cancellation.

Dosanjh also shared a video on Instagram Thursday, in which he spoke about dealing with setbacks. He did not directly mention the police decision.

“Whenever someone tries to pull you back, whenever someone tries to sabotage your work, you actually end up with more energy,” he said.

The Delhi show will kick off the India leg of Dosanjh’s Aura World Tour. He is also scheduled to perform in Indore on 15 November, Ahmedabad on 21 November, Mumbai on 27 November, Bengaluru on 29 November and Lucknow on 5 December. A Chandigarh concert is also planned, although its date hasn’t been announced.

Dosanjh last toured India in 2024 with his Dil-Luminati Tour. He has since been performing internationally as part of the Aura World Tour.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
