New Delhi: After being a Khiladi for decades, Akshay Kumar is finally entering the science-fiction genre with Samuk, an alien-territory film directed by Kanishk Varma. The film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with Aashin A. Shah serving as co-producer.
The project has been in development for the last two years, with Varma and Shah building the universe and script of the film. Samuk will combine military realism, survival horror and alien mythology.
Shah shared that he is returning to filmmaking after a gap of nearly 13 years, and said that his new journey is with none other than Akshay Kumar.
“The ambition to create something better and bigger every single time with Akshay sir has been the hallmark of our journey,” he told Variety.
“We have challenged each other in ways to keep pushing ourselves and do better, and this time, the challenge is bigger than ever,” he added.

In the film, Akshay Kumar’s character enters uncharted territory and encounters mysterious creatures. The film has also brought on Academy Award-nominated creature-effects designer Alec Gillis, who previously worked on Alien: Romulus (2024). Gillis has designed the central alien along with other creatures for the film.
Joining him is British action director Luke Tumber, who is overseeing the action sequences of the thriller.
Akshay Kumar has previously ventured into time-travel territory with Action Replayy in 2010. The film, directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, starred Akshay Kumar alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Om Puri.
The makers have not yet revealed Samuk’s complete cast or its theatrical release window.
