PARIS (Reuters) – A group of five activists from campaign group Greenpeace were seen climbing on top of a building close to TotalEnergies’ headquarters west of Paris on Friday to display a banner critical of the French oil major’s strategy to fight climate change, according to a Reuters journalist on the site.

Greenpeace opposes Total’s continued exploration of oil and gas, despite a ‘climate emergency’, a Greenpeace spokesperson told Reuters.

Barriers had already been erected around the entrances of Total’s offices in Paris’ La Defense district on Thursday evening, with employees told to work from home on Friday.

(This story has been corrected to make clear that activists are on a building close to the Total headquarters, not on the headquarters itself, in the headline and paragraph 1)
