New Delhi: Peaky Blinders is finally ready to move into a new era with its next generation of Shelbys. Jamie Bell is set to star as Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s eldest son. Bell will be taking over the role from Irish actor Barry Keoghan, who portrayed the character in the film.
Netflix and the BBC recently shared that Stranger Things’s Charlie Heaton will star as Charles Shelby, Tommy’s younger son. Set in the aftermath of World War II, the series will serve as the official sequel to the sixth season of Peaky Blinders and the feature film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (2026).
Taking place nearly a decade after the war, the story explores how the Shelby family attempts to rebuild its empire and reclaim control over Birmingham. The last time Duke appeared, he was in grief, but now he returns to Birmingham with a different intensity and mission. Charles, on the other hand, has spent years away and has barely seen his half-brother, setting the stage for a reunion within the infamous Shelby family.
The series is written by Steven Knight, the British screenwriter behind projects such as House of Guinness and A Thousand Blows. Knight previously wrote both the original Peaky Blinders series and its feature film continuation, making him the creative force behind the Shelby legacy.
“Once again, it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the blitz. The new generation of Shelbys has taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.” Knight said in a press release.
The next-generation series will reportedly unfold across two six-episode seasons. The cast also features Jessica Brown Findlay, known for Downton Abbey and Harlots, as well as Lashana Lynch from No Time to Die (2021). Lucy Karczewski will also appear in a key role. The official release date is yet to be announced.
Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons between 2013 and 2022, with Cillian Murphy leading the series as Tommy Shelby. Over the years, the show grew into a global cult phenomenon and won the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series in 2018.
