New Delhi: Pakistani singer and actor Ali Zafar has come out in support of Katrina Kaif after she was body-shamed over her post-pregnancy appearance.
Zafar, who worked with Kaif in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011), called out the men commenting on her body and asked them to “look inward” instead.
The row began when a social media user compared Kaif’s post-pregnancy appearance to how she used to look earlier. Zafar responded to the criticism by questioning why a woman’s body has to fit the standards created by society.
“A man was talking about my colleague with whom I previously worked in Bollywood expressing immense discomfort over how she used to look versus how she looks now. Especially speaking as a man, I believe we need to look inward and make some essential corrections within ourselves,” Zafar said.
He added that people often have no idea what someone might be going through in their personal life and therefore we should not be quick to judge them based on their appearance. He highlighted that it is wrong to think that a woman’s body must fit into society’s standards. Zafar urged people to be more understanding and compassionate instead of commenting on someone’s appearance.
“Every person is going through their own struggle, their own search. We have no idea what someone is enduring in their life. We should be nice to people, compassionate, understanding, accepting, appreciative, and positive,” Zafar said.
He shared that people should not be concerned about how Kaif looks or what she chooses to do with her life.
“Whatever search or struggle she is going through, whatever her past was, whatever her present and future are, that is her life. Let her live, why do you care? It is her life,” he said.
