New Delhi: Actor Salman Khan will open the ninth and final season of Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan as its first guest. And the first teaser featuring the two is out.

“This is the finale season so this can go anywhere,” Johar tells Khan in the teaser. Khan responds: “Kahin bhi ja sakta hai (It can go anywhere).”

Khan will appear solo this time. He made his debut on Koffee With Karan in Season 4 and returned for the show’s 100th episode in Season 5, with his brothers Arbaaz and Sohail.

After more than two decades on air, Koffee With Karan is preparing to sign off. Johar confirmed that the upcoming season would be the show’s last, sharing an emotional video reflecting on its journey since its launch in 2004.

In the video, the filmmaker recalled pitching the idea to his father, producer Yash Johar, who was initially sceptical.

“He looked at me, and said… ‘Karan, you are going to call your friends and chat with them. You do it every day. Who is going to pay you for that?’” Johar recounted.

Yash Johar died on 26 June, 2004. Johar went on to shoot the first episode of the show on 16 August that year.

Recalling the show’s memorable guests and controversies, Johar said, “a lot has happened”.

“I called lovers, I called friends, I called families, I called lovers who then went on to become ex-lovers. Some of them even got married. I nearly put an end to the careers of national icons. I’m living with the word nepotism even today,” he said.

Koffee With Karan is set to stream on Jio Hotstar 14 October onwards.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
