New Delhi: An AI-morphed video of Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor’s song ‘Chuttamalle’ from the 2024 film Devara: Part 1 has sparked outrage after the clip digitally altered Kapoor’s appearance to create sexually explicit imagery.

Jr NTR called the act “Disgusting, Sick and Shameless” and said that using AI to disrespect a woman in such a manner was “shameful beyond words”.

“In a land that worships women as mothers and goddesses, where ‘Matrudevo Bhava’ is not just a phrase but a part of our culture, some people have fallen so low that they are using AI to disrespect a woman in the most degrading way possible. Using AI to create something this vile is shameful beyond words,” he posted on X Saturday.

Kapoor also reacted to the video, appealing to people not to share deepfakes.

“It’s disturbing to see AI-generated fake videos being circulated. Please don’t create, share or promote such content, This is a clear misuse of AI. Legal action will definitely be taken against those involved. Jai Hind,” she wrote.

Jr NTR also warned of legal action, stating that he would pursue legal action against both its creators and those circulating it.

“To the scumbags behind this morphed Chuttamalle video, I will not spare any of you. I will take every possible legal action against those who created it and those who are spreading it,” he said.

‘Bring strict AI regulations’

NTR urged people not to give the video further reach by watching, sharing or engaging with it. He pointed out that such misuse of AI can potentially target anyone.

“Today it is someone else. Tomorrow, it could be your mother, sister, wife or daughter,” he said.

He also called on governments to take stronger action against the misuse of artificial intelligence, asking for stricter regulations.

“This is a serious issue, and I urge all the state governments and the Government of India to act strongly and bring in strict regulations against the misuse of AI,” he said.

‘Chuttamalle’ was composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Shilpa Rao.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
