Stay updated with ThePrint:

Kolkata, Nov 5 (PTI) Jai Balaji Group on Thursday said it has proposed an investment of around Rs 6,000 crore in West Bengal over the coming years, with a focus on specialised steel, defence, aerospace, precision engineering and renewable energy.

The proposed expansion is expected to generate more than 20,000 additional employment opportunities, the group said in a statement.

The investment plan envisages manufacturing specialised alloy and high-grade steel for defence applications, high-precision materials and components for the railways and aerospace industries, as well as specialised copper and aluminium alloys, steel castings and forgings.

The group also plans to expand its presence in precision engineering goods and downstream products catering to the railways, defence, automobiles, space and other engineering sectors.

The proposed investment comes amid the West Bengal government’s focus on industrial development and efforts to attract fresh investments through forthcoming industrial policy initiatives, the statement said.

The group said its plans reflected confidence in the state’s industrial potential and the business environment being promoted by the new government.

Founded by the Jajodia family, Jai Balaji Group has a four-generation legacy in the steel and manufacturing sectors, with 10 manufacturing facilities across West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, including eight in West Bengal.

It currently provides livelihood opportunities to more than 25,000 people, directly and indirectly.

The group also plans to invest in solar and green power generation to support its manufacturing operations, improve energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint.

Its existing integrated manufacturing infrastructure includes captive power generation capacity of around 100 MW, with facilities utilising waste heat and solid industrial waste for power generation, the statement added. PTI BSM NN
