New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has initiated a detailed investigation into the technical issues reported by iPhone users following the rollout of iOS 18, official sources said on Tuesday.

The regulator had issued a notice to Apple Inc last year, seeking a detailed response on the matter, including explanations on the technical issues reported, the timeline of their emergence, and the steps the company had taken to address them.

With the problems persisting a year after the notice was issued, sources said the CCPA “has now initiated a detailed investigation into the matter.” Meanwhile, a recent survey by LocalCircles shows that complaints among iPhone users have increased since its previous study in January 2025.

LocalCircles said it plans to share the latest findings with the CCPA, as an input into its ongoing investigation, and with other relevant authorities, while reiterating its demand for class action against Apple Inc, stating that no proper solution has been offered to affected iPhone users so far.

“The CCPA’s escalation of the case and its scrutiny of Apple’s software warranty terms is a welcome step,” LocalCircles said in a statement.

However, it cautioned that until enforceable directives or penalties are issued, relief for affected consumers will largely depend on “Apple’s internal prioritisation and willingness to publicly acknowledge the extent of the problem.” PTI LUX SHM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
