Indian Army ‘redeploys’ troops, reaches heights facing Finger 4 in Pangong Tso

The move by India, both in Southern and Northern banks of the Pangong Lake, comes after talks with China reached a stalemate with PLA refusing to budge from its positions.

New Delhi: Specialised units of the Indian Army have climbed up the heights, within Indian dominated territory facing the ridgelines of Finger 4 in the Northern Banks of Pangong Tso in Ladakh where the Chinese had built posts following their intrusion in April, ThePrint has learnt.

The development comes at a time when another set of specialised units of the Army has captured strategic heights in the Southern Bank as part of precautionary deployment on its own side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), taking the Chinese by surprise.

Sources in the defence and security establishment told ThePrint that it was in this week that a “readjustment of deployment” was carried out and soldiers reached “heights” and established posts.

“These are precautionary deployments well within the Indian side of the LAC,” the source said.

“There is no point in sitting on the ground when the enemy is at the heights. It is readjustment of troop deployment,” the source added.

“Reports of Indian troops occupying heights at Finger 4 are not correct. As part of the precautionary deployment carried out on 30 August, some readjustments of our positions on the Northern Bank of Pangong Tso on our side of the LAC had also been carried out,” an Army source said.

As reported by ThePrint earlier on multiple occasions, Chinese had intruded into the Indian side of the LAC in the Northern Banks of the lake.

China currently dominates areas between Finger 4 and Finger 8, a distance of about 8 km, which comes within the Indian side of the LAC.

Focus still on talks but India has ‘better bargaining power’

India had moved the specialised units to the Pangong Lake way back in late April and multiple plans were made. However, the focus remained on talks, which have not made progress since July as the Chinese refused to budge from their positions.

With talks not making any progress and China’s bid to capture more territory over the weekend in Southern Banks, the Army moved in and dominated heights within the Indian side of the LAC.

The soldiers were also working on reaching heights near the ridgelines of Finger 4 where the Chinese have camped even though they had pulled back some troops from the ground level to Finger 5.

Sources said that India has not been on the offensive, but is actually defending its interest in its own territory.

Sources indicated that the fresh developments in the Southern Bank give greater impetus for talks and resolving the issue by the Chinese, and that India now has “better bargaining power”.

This report has been updated to reflect the correct position of the Indian Army in the Northern Banks of Pangong Tso.

  1. ‘The development comes at a time when another set of specialised units of the Army has captured strategic heights in the Southern Bank as part of precautionary deployment on its own side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), taking the Chinese by surprise.’

All this sounds line vain Hindu bravado. Moving in your territory does not constitute a capture.

China has entered what you claim as your territory and refuses to budge – that is a capture alright !

But our Hindu chowkidar says nothing has happened. So you say we have captured our own. Does it make me feel better ?

    • Dear full mad half paki half chinese commu-neech, YOUR ONLY CURE IS TO Cancel your chinese DAD and get an Indian dad, so tell your avaya clad paki mom to do the impregnation act with a Hindu dad under avaya to reproduce you and cure your disease.

  2. Like always print twists the story. Finger 4 and 8 were patrolled by both countries as a grey zone of LAC before april 2020. Then how come you can call it an Indian territory intruded by the Chinese?. Obviously, to create a false narrative against BJP.

    • You mean false narrative for the BJP. According to them, the Chinese ran with their tails down and 140 were killed. The BJP’s IT cell has even named the Chinese soldiers and shown their graves.

  3. It seems that, this resembles and may lead to the Nehruvian “zig-zag” policy, that ultimately lead to the debacle of 1962.
It’s true, that India isn’t the same of 1962,but if we don’t thread carefully, great mischief can be done in these perilous conditions.

  4. The reportage by Print on this matter is confusing. While Shekar Gupta claimed China has not intruded, every other written report seems to claim so. If Jyothi Malhotra is to be believed, India has been occupied by the Chinese. If Shekar has to be believed there is no Chinese anywhere inside our LAC. Which is it? Shekar instead of cutting the clutter, Print is causing the clutter.

    • LAC is a perceptional. India claims LAC according to its own convenience and Chinese to their own. The area between the points of contradiction is a buffer zone and both the Chinese and Indians patrol it. The Chinese have come into the buffer zone and are sitting there. So it is the territory which India claims (technically the whole of Aksai Chin is ours) but had not occupied due to mutual agreement.

    • SG is chowkidar Modi’s mouth piece. Chowkidar says nothing happened, although his body language was that of a dog that had been mauled.

All Indians seem to behave as if land was taken while claiming India rebuffed China and they ran with their tails behind their legs.

  5. We need to improve our economy.

    1) supplant chinese products with INDIAN. They will be COSTLIER but atleast the money will circulate and percolate inside INDIA.

    2) Reduce population though such measures same will take time to bear results. But will infact improve better distribution of limited resources for improvement of human resources.

    3) Ensure freedom of speech but never back down from EXPOSING anti INDIA projects through social media and legal measures to create a populace of free thinkers and not paid thinkers.

    4) Snehesh as usual giving information not producing information. Thanks.

    • Dear full mad half paki half chinese commu-neech SHAILESH, YOUR ONLY CURE IS TO Cancel your chinese DAD and get an Indian dad, so tell your avaya clad paki mom to do the impregnation act with an Indian dad under cover of avaya to re-produce you, cancel this faulty present and cure your mental disease.
