The comments ranged from Sapna Chaudhary bewafa hai to ‘Because she supports Congress, I hate her’.

New Delhi: A couple of days after Union foreign minister Sushma Swaraj was viciously trolled for a bureaucratic decision in Lucknow, a dancer from Haryana has become the latest victim of the online mob.

Sapna Chaudhary, who shot to fame after a viral dance video last year, started getting negative reviews on Facebook Monday after she showed interest in campaigning for Congress for the upcoming elections in 2019.

Chaudhary’s Facebook page, with over 2.8 million likes, has been continuously receiving negative reviews. People are rating the page one star saying they don’t support a Congress follower and won’t watch her videos either.

Most of the reviewers who gave the page a single star rating wrote similar comments, ranging from Sapna Chaudhary bewafa hai (Chaudhary is not loyal) to ‘Because she supports Congress, I hate her’.

Last week, Chaudhary tried to meet Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi at the party headquarters in New Delhi but was unable to.

The trolling was not limited to social media. Ashwini Chopra, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Karnal, allegedly called Chaudhary a thumkewali (entertainer) Monday.

Ab Congress me jo thumke lagane wale hain wahi thumke lagaenge. Ab ye to unko dekhna chahiye ki unhone thumke lagane hain ya chunaav ladna hai. (The dancers in the Congress party will dance. But they need to see whether they are going to dance or contest elections),” Chopra said.

Chaudhary responded to the comment saying it only reveals the MP’s mentality.

“Ashwini is a senior leader and I don’t expect an apology from him. I am an entertainer and am just going to focus on my work,” she said.

This is not the first time people have resorted to negative Facebook reviews to troll celebrities online. Swaraj’s page received a massive number of negative reviews on Monday. Around 30,000 people gave her a one star rating and abused her for suspending a Lucknow passport officer who allegedly didn’t grant an inter-faith couple their passports.

Though, unlike Swaraj, whose page reached as low as 1.98 star rating on Facebook, Chaudhary’s page picked up after her fans supported her with 5 star ratings.

The battle for online supremacy through Facebook page ratings isn’t new. Earlier in February, after the Union budget, the BJP had to disable its review feature on Facebook as netizens from Andhra Pradesh gave 1 star rating to the party’s official page over dissatisfaction with the central government.

Chaudhary was unavailable for comment. The story will be updated once she responds.
