For better or worse, Ms Mayawati should have stayed with Akhilesh Babu. She was hasty in calling off the alliance after the general election. Her England returned nephew does not have the fire in the belly that Chandrashekhar Azad does. With all the caveats of not writing off a politician, her career seems to be drawing to a close.
Mayawati has no political insight into Dalit issues. She has not contributed to their empowerment except by way of installing herself in power and thereby enhancing their self-respect. But sadly that has a sell-by-date tag on it. We are seeing the last days of Mayawati’s political relevance.
