It is possible to discern shades of Ayodhya in this judgment. Both privilege matters of faith in issues that should be seen in temporal terms. In a country where religion plays an outsized role in national – now also in public – life, the Sabarimala verdict, as also Triple Talaaq, were bold, reformist moves. 2. For me, it will be a sad day if a majority of judges on a seven member a Bench rule against the admission of women to the shrine, ruling in favour of long established religion.
