Rahul Gandhi’s attack on a reporter for asking inconvenient questions was unwarranted and deplorable. Shooting the messenger won’t help Congress. It betrays a dictatorial streak and cynicism. Congress should get over its persecution complex and introspect why it’s failing to win over voters. Abusing and mocking journalists isn’t the way.

The SC verdict reviving “guilt by association” doctrine under UAPA restricts individual rights further on an already draconian law. It does away with the distinction between active and passive members of banned organisations, without giving clarity on the term ‘member’. Over-zealous probe agencies will abuse it to jeopardise civil rights.
