Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s 19 weeks in office have been a disappointment. His rule has been marked by increasing attacks on media, politics of vendetta and a governance style driven by freebies galore. He should learn from other young politicians who squandered their mandate and faded into oblivion.
Pakistan ban on postal mail from India a churlish, futile move in age of WhatsApp, emails
Pakistan’s ban on postal mail from India is a futile and laboured attempt at sending a message, especially when people are using WhatsApp, Facetime and emails. Most of Pakistan’s efforts to focus on Kashmir’s Article 370 issue have come a cropper. This move is just a sign of churlishness now.
Pakistan should have acceded to requests for two VVIP flights to overfly its territory. The substance of the relationship is in jeopardy. Small gestures should be allowed to create pinpricks of light. So we should be happy that the Kartarpur Corridor project is nearing completion. 2. It is now Pakistan’s turn to host the next SAARC summit. It should be allowed to proceed. 3. To rephrase the late EAM Sushma Swarajji, Padosiyon ke beech itni khattas nahin honi chahiye.
CM Jagan Reddy has won by a landslide. He has got his own back against the Congress, which showed extreme lack of gratitude for his father’s contribution to bringing it to power in 2004. He has also humbled one of the senior most CMs in the country. Without Hyderabad, AP is fiscally stressed, in no position to pay for a capital that looks like a film set from Bahubali. Some tough decisions may be unavoidable. However, he must raise his stature and his game. So far he has failed to measure up.
