Yogi Adityanath government’s refusal to remove the name-and-shame posters in Lucknow and its haste to issue an ordinance to recover damages from anti-CAA protestors betrays its extreme hubris and defiance. The Supreme Court had settled the issue of recovery, but the UP government’s implementation blatantly disregards civil liberties and privacy.

Governance in MP is biggest casualty amid COVID-19 crisis. Anti-defection law needs a relook

Governance during a public health emergency is the biggest casualty in Madhya Pradesh’s Congress-BJP tussle for power. Parliament must revisit the anti-defection law, rendered ineffective by defectors resigning and getting re-elected. The Supreme Court must also come out with clear guidelines to deal with resignations by legislators and floor tests.

  1. I support the UP government which is naming and shaming 5hosr who have burnt and vandalised public property, caused rioting and arson and incited communal hatred. Each and every Indian should know these names and the UP govt must recover the loss from these people. I don’t know why supreme court want to give a pass to these law breakers. In fact supreme court should encourage the steps taken by the government otherwise if the arsonists go scot free they will be emboldened and innocents would continue to suffer.

  2. Civil liberties and privacy is a double edged sword. You can use it cut the RAPIST or the RAPED one. Indian librandus are always on the wrong side i.e the rapist, the person being punished for the crimes committed.

  3. CM Kamal Nath is prolonging the agony. He does not have the numbers. Two seasoned politicians, including a former two term CM, unable to save a government formed after fifteen years in the wilderness. Whatever the merits of the anti defection law, completely partisan conduct by Speakers all over the country is creating the constitutionally undesirable situation that these cases land up for adjudication by the judiciary. Most assuredly the apex court will order an immediate floor test. No point griping about nine digit figures in next door Gujarat. This is the new normal. Deal with it or grace the Opposition benches.
