CM Trivendra Singh Rawat’s resignation is good for Uttarakhand that is suffering from misgovernance. BJP’s decision, a year before the elections, is driven by political expediency. People deserve political stability, and not musical chairs that Uttarakhand CM’s post has become. Rawat’s exit underlines the failure of Modi-Shah’s CM choices, again.

BJP unleashing ED, CBI and CBDT before elections poisons idea of cooperative federalism

Unleashing the ‘agencies’ or the triumvirate of ED, CBI and CBDT before state elections seems to have become an addiction with the BJP, irrespective of whether it has any stakes in the election or not. Kerala is the latest example. The ugliness this triggers poisons the idea of cooperative federalism.

IM operative’s conviction in Batla House case is a lesson for Congress. Hypocrisy on terrorism hurts

The conviction of IM operative Ariz Khan for killing Delhi Police inspector MC Sharma at Batla House should settle conspiracy theories. It’s a tough lesson for Congress. Hypocrisy, especially on terrorism, hurts. UPA posthumously awarded Ashok Chakra to Sharma but clammed up when some prominent leaders called the encounter fake.

Fiscally weak Tamil Nadu can ill afford freebies like monthly wages for housewives

Even by Tamil Nadu’s own track record of election promises of generous freebies, the guaranteed monthly wages for housewives is over the top. A state that has been deteriorating steadily from being ‘revenue surplus’ to ‘revenue deficit’ in the past decade can ill afford to embark on such fiscal misadventures.

  1. The problem with TP is it reports what it hears without actually going deep into the issues. They are only finding fault on the current diaspora. Kerala has become a notorious place for conversions, land grabbing, love jihad and illegal currency are not maon issues for TP. The whole world know what happened bat batla house and court has already given verdict and contradicting is a big wrong reporting

  2. CM choices.

The following is another headline from this edition of The Print.

“Only 1 out of 8 Uttarakhand CMs completed 5 yrs in office. Rawat is latest to leave early. Uttarakhand has had 8 CMs so far, including Nityanand Swami (2000-2001) and Bhagat Singh Koshyari (2001-02), who occupied the chair before the state had its first election.”

    Contradicting?

Has this nothing to do with Uttarakhand politics?

    Just asking.

  3. If a senior functionary – recall Krishi Mantri Radha Mohan Singh – is not measuring up to the demands of his office, his departure should be welcomed. Too often, retained simply as a matter of prestige, unwilling to accept the frailty of the initial decision to appoint him. For the average citizen, it is the state government that delivers the largest bouquet of services. The CM’s aptitude, ability, astuteness matter a great deal. Despite this, many such appointments in recent years are of individuals who have ideological purity and compatibility. Electoral fortunes can begin to leach away.

  4. In the United States, the FBI follows a healthy practice in easing the throttle on politically connected cases on the eve of elections. It also scrupulously ensures that sensitive information about the progress / status of these cases does not make its way into the public domain. It takes these basic precautions of keeping the playing field level although, over the decades, it has investigated powerful individuals from both parties and is not viewed as partisan or subject to pressures from the White House.

  5. Aayenge toh Comrade Stalin hee. 2. Whenever a Tamil Nadu election rolls by, tell my wife, If we had been living in Madras, you would have had a shelf filled with mixer grinders. A better deal would be to shift to Hyderabad and claim a two bedroom apartment, even if the walls are an unaesthetic pink.

  6. Normally one does not do Whataboutery. However, it would be necessary to recall the recent judgment of the CJM Surat, acquitting 127 accused persons of terror charges. Unclear how the Indian state will compensate them for twenty years of trauma. It is trite to say Terror has no religion. All too often it does, in terms of prejudice and systemic injustice. One feels deeply pained to see Ms Pragya Thakur in Parliament.
