Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget 2020 is a disappointment. It has few encouraging announcements but no big, expansionary ideas or reform moves to revive India’s economy. This shows the Modi government is unable to, or doesn’t want to, disrupt the status quo in economic policy like in its political and social agenda.
P Chidambaram’s dream budget of 1997-98 was also a pathbreaking one.

When ltcg came, I suspected it is to benefit the CA’s . Now DDT withdrawal confirmed my suspicion.
Also it will facilitate harassment where required.
I have never watched a Budget speech in my life. Least of all if it is as long as a Raj Kapoor film. The only Budget that Indians will remember – presented before half of them were born – was 1991. India as an idea whose time had come. 2. The economy seems to be the least of our concerns. There is enough life in the beast for it to muddle through. However, not if it receives mortal blows like Demonetisation and shoddy GST. 3. The outcome of the Delhi election does not concern me directly. My only hope / prayer / expectation is that it will sensitise the incumbent to the elementary fact that in a poor country, one cannot get by with laser shows like the beautifully choreographed Beating the Retreat ceremony. Indians are no longer able to butter their toast. That is the imperative Budgets are meant to address. Even India Inc is now feeling too limp to hold up a placard saying 9.
