Shiv Sena, SP and RJD backing Mamata Banerjee is a collective snub to Congress from its current and former allies. The party stands isolated in the opposition camp. Its dalliance with the Left is advantage BJP. Congress leadership’s bizarre fascination with the tried-tested-and-abandoned Left shows bankruptcy of ideas and strategy.

With 300+ MPs and friendly media, Modi govt’s image paranoia shows its priorities are wrong

It’s normal for governments to covet good press. But being so obsessed with image and wanting to muffle all criticism, as Modi government GoM’s report indicates, is definitely baffling. If a government with 300+ MPs and a largely friendly media, is still paranoid about its image, its priorities are wrong.

Bengaluru ranked most liveable city is an unhappy comment on the state of other big cities

Bengaluru being ranked India’s most liveable big city is surprising. It’s also an unhappy comment on the state of other big cities. Forget being smart, our cities are not even comfortable. And those in the north and east need to catch up with the south and west, as the ranking shows.

  1. As a resident of Bengaluru, I can tell you that traffic density and garbage accumulation continue to pull down the city’s quality of life. If Bengaluru, with its problems, can rank as the most livable city, I shudder to think what life will be like in other cities. This rank should have gone to Mysuru, which is smaller, and a far better city than Bengaluru.

  2. The sun does not bother about its image. Converting four million tons of matter into energy each second. It is the moon, glowing with borrowed light, which seems to wax and wane all the time. Particularly distasteful was the suggestion, reportedly made by the gentleman who Manohar Parrikar said looked more like an LTTE cadre than a Poona Brahmin, to colour code journalists, based on their obsequiousness.

  3. More than the Shiv Sena, SP or RJD, which are purely regional parties, it is the Congress which should have a national perspective on politics. For Didi to win a third term nourishes federalism, keeps the Opposition alive. Tamil Nadu since 1967 and Bengal since 1977 are lost to the party. Sochiye, what would have been the vibrant state of this emaciated party if ten mass leaders of the caliber of CM Mamata Banerjee were still part of it.
