GDP growth at 8.2% in 2023-24 is a positive surprise since the government expected 7.6-8%. Manufacturing rebound, sustained construction, and services strength are reasons to cheer. However, slowing consumption expenditure is concerning. Low wage growth and shortage of jobs are the grim reality under the shiny macro figures.

The stringent FIR is an apt deterrent. The military’s superior attitude toward the police, which has fought terror and suffered more, is disastrous.
