Much is written about the caste system and how Brahmins are the forefront of creating this cruel system and dividing the Hindus. The Left media has always
been anti Hindu and we see that in our Bollywood movies & web series which
have highlighted the poor caste system and its evil – with a lot of spice. However,
the plight of poor in general has not been highlighted in the right fashion.

This brings me to the basic question – Why are Brahmins being held for the caste
system & why in the last 70 years of Indian independence still this system
prevails.

My last read fact -Raja Ram Mohan Roy – a elite Indian of his times highlighted
the evils of Indian society & sought British help to correct the Indian system by
bringing laws. One such law was abolishing caste system.

If we deep dive into our past -we find Manu Smriti which speaks about Varna –
which basically meant nature of job deciding the Varna of the people. Generally,
people follow their family traditions as its much easier to do since you grow up in
this eco system. English men with their limited ability to understand the
complexity of our society and sensing a gap came up with laws and embedded
the divide in our society.

The Quota System basis caste in our independent India has ensured that people
are still earmarked for their caste of birth and not economic situation.

The divide in society was understood by me when a set of my friends did not pay
registration/ exam fee for the 10 th CBSE board exam while we all queued to pay.
Of curiosity I asked my teacher, and she could not answer me but latter I could
find out they have SC/ST quota. before that for me as a kid it was one society.

Issues of current Caste based Quota system

⮚ Multiple generation getting Quota Benefit- have come across live
examples when few of my friend who had a ST quota -even when their
father earned well with a govt job – got through engg /medical entrance
exam, got good jobs and still his kids are enjoying quota benefit. Should this
not end?

Once a quota has been given – one generation has been uplifted
they should be automatically removed from the Quota bucket.

⮚ Economically Poor but from so called Higher caste – Also had friends who
could not afford to study professional studies. One they did not have the funds to
get into pvt colleges and 2 nd competition for general students is too high to
beat with a normal IQ.
⮚ Entry of New Castes in Quota -A Vote Bank Politics – Every govt has started
to add up new castes into the quota buckets to garner their votes which
has reduced the funnel for general public. good 50% has been reserved
under Quota bucket.

⮚ Un acceptability of Talent – talent of a Quota student /promote is always
given less credit with a statement -he come from quota. This anger will
grow more and more, and divide will become higher as the so-called higher
caste faces issue of unemployment and poverty.

⮚ Lack of Data to support Quota system benefits – A report card of the
Quota system has never been published to compare the socio-economic
parameters vis a vis higher caste people. We have seats of LS & Assembly
which have been reserved for SC/ST – has that changed anything.

Instead of putting a caste base quota – we should have only one Quota –
Economically Backward Class which shall help even the poor upper caste kids the
right to good education and equal growth chances.

Also, usage of Quota should be limited to max two generation so that the base
shift can be visible, and more and more people can be in the “MAIN GENERAL
QUOTA”
