The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the winners of its fifth Health for All Film Festival, an annual event that supports the public’s awareness of pressing health issues and promotes positive change through the use of film.
The fifth edition of the festival received close to 1,000 entries from filmmakers around the world, covering topics such as gender equality, war trauma, burnout, climate change, and healthy aging.
The winners are The Visionary Women of Indonesia (Indonesia) on disabilities, blindness, and rehabilitation, Journey Beyond the Rubble (Turkey) on natural disasters, earthquakes, and internally displaced persons, Color (Spain) on gender equity, Ping Pong Parkinsons (US) on mental health, Parkinson’s, and physical activity, Dalal’s Story (Iraq) on trauma, war, refugees’ physical and mental health, Mom & Me, and that… (France) on cancer and mental health, Cycle Path (UK) on environment, climate change, and health.
A panel of experts, including renowned actors and advocates, Nandita Das, Sharon Stone, and Alfonso Herrera, selected the winning films, which were announced at a special event during the festival’s investment round on the eve of the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
