New Delhi: The UK government has announced that 130,000 people will be better protected against diseases as it for the first time rolls out a new life-saving health check program to workplaces across the country, a press release stated.
The checks are a quick and easy way for people to check their health and record their results. This information is then used to determine their cardiovascular risk. It aims to protect them from diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, and diabetes.
Andrew Gwynne, Minister for Public Health and Prevention, said: “This innovative new program is an important step towards community-focused healthcare and supporting economic and productivity through improving health, shifting the focus from treatment to prevention, easing the strain on the NHS and helping people to live well for longer.”
The new NHS Health Check aims to reach more people through their place of work and make it more convenient for them to improve their cardiovascular health. The government believes that early detection of cardiovascular disease can help to prevent the development of wider health problems. The program is being rolled out in a pilot scheme in Norfolk, Medway, and Lambeth.
The government has also announced plans to develop a new digital version of the NHS Health Check. This would allow people to undertake their health check at home and have the results automatically written back into their GP electronic health record.
