New Delhi: A video of several Chinese musicians playing a Ukrainian folk song has elicited an overwhelmingly positive response from Twitter.

The video posted by user @gzromeo is a compilation of several clips that include one of a Ukrainian soldier singing a homegrown folk song in the middle of the war. The post was picked up by many Chinese musicians who gave their own twist to the song.

“Music has no borders, pray for peace! Glory to Ukraine,” the user wrote in the Twitter post. The video didn’t just have the original fold tune but remixed and remastered the original. It got over 7K views.

Social media users appreciated the video, with some saying Chinese musicians had found a revolutionary voice in their support for Ukraine. “Their voices are hardly heard in Chinese media,” they responded to the video. Others praised the power of music for “bringing people together in the strangest and best of ways” and “how music had no barrier”.

In all, people from different nationalities seemed to love the melody and found it “großartig” (German for admirable) and “Piękne” (Polish for beautiful). Those from Ukraine or who sympathised with the country also gave a “Slava Ukraina” salute. (meaning Glory to Ukraine).

This is the fifth week of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the death toll of children in Ukraine has reached over 150 since the war began. According to official figures, 1,189 people have died and 1,901 have been injured, while 6.5 million people have been internally displaced.

In response to the atrocities caused by Russian aggression, Ukraine’s prosecutor’s office has initiated over 3,000 criminal cases against their soldiers.
