New Delhi: A senior police official from Karachi was arrested for allegedly smuggling gutka and drugs.
The officer, Ahmed Karim Jilani, was apprehended by customs officials near Jamshoro during the alleged transportation of the drugs, according to a report by ARY News.
Jilani, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), has been suspended from duty and is awaiting the outcome of the inquiry lodged against him.
The Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) has initiated a judicial inquiry into the matter and a report is expected to be submitted within 15 days.
DIG Mirpurkhas Tanveer Alam Odho has been designated as the inquiry officer by the IGP. The police have emphasized the need for a transparent investigation in the matter.
